Our Estate Vineyard, Renaecau Vineyard, with deep clay loam soil on the Beamsville Bench is planted with grapes to 15-acres. Premium French vinifera varietals on vigor-reducing rootstocks, including Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Franc were planted in 2003. Our newest 25-acre vineyard, Long Rows Vineyard, was planted in 2009/2010 on the limestone-clay soil of the Twenty Mile Bench. It was also planted with French vinifera varietals; Merlot, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer. The use of vigor-reducing rootstocks at both vineyards results in fewer grape clusters of intense flavor, while our vineyard practices and artisanal approach to winemaking results in wines that are a reflection of the unique land on which they are grown.

We have selected our vineyard sites for their potential to deliver the very highest quality grapes possible. We take great care to ensure that the variety, rootstock, clonal selection, vineyard spacing and trellis design are matched to the soil and microclimate of and within these vineyard sites.

We farm both vineyard sites to deliver the highest quality grapes each year regardless of quantity. Rarely does a large fruit quantity result in the highest fruit quality. Pruning, leaf stripping, canopy and cluster management, and hand harvesting are done with only quality grapes in mind.

We give life back to our vineyards through organic compost comprised partially of our own grapes, grapes skins, pips and stems. It enriches the soil with tiny microbes and living organisms that breakdown matter into useful nutrients such as nitrogen. The nutrient rich soil allows the grapes to reach optimal fruit intensity.

An integral component to our vineyards, the honeybee contributes its priceless gift as a pollinator. Over 45 honeybee colonies live on the Estate, with an additional 180 colonies at 6 locations on the Beamsville Bench. From these hives, the bees travel to all areas, enlivening the gardens and trees and vines with their busy pollen gathering from early-morning to late summer evenings. The bees are tended by Eugene Roman, a second-generation beekeeper, and his son William. Both Renata and Krystina are also involved with tending the bees and actively harvesting the honey.

We believe that Rosewood’s unique vineyard geography and commitment to quality; produce wines of exceptional complexity and elegance. We hope that you agree and welcome your comments.
